Do violent video games provoke violence?
I personally think if you’re a mass murderer you don’t need games to kill and if your not a murderer you’re just not. Video games or no video games.
My aunt feels different and would never let me play GTA growing up and I’m 18 now and she won’t sit in the room while I’m playing it. When I do play it she’s really snotty with me. She insist that it will cause me to go off the rails even though I’m studying computer science in college.
I also don’t drink or smoke.
I think it’s a load of crap personally. I think experts look for scapegoats to blame the poor conditions of society on. If we truely are influenced or brainwashed by video games and GTA makes you want to commit mass murders and steal cars, then how come other softer games don’t influnce you?
I dunno, I think people are trying to make excuses for other people’s poor choices. Nobody grows up without a choice. We all chose to do the things we do.
However…
I do agree that voilent games should be played when you’re mature enough to handle them. Eighteen is always a safe age to play it, but it depends on the kid. If they were of a cool temperment and pleasant most or all of the time, I wouldn’t have a problem if they played at 16 or 17.
